The Story

As an visiting student to a Taiwan University, Hong Kong boy Meng-Lo (Alan Tang) gets a room in the home of his father's friends, Mr. and Mrs. Yeung. It is here that he meets their daughter Hang-ni (Chen Chen) who was born with a serious heart defect. This defect causes her to collapse under stress and she has been warned not to fall in love. Hang-in plays the piano and sings well which fascinates Tang.

Tang and Hang-ni fall in love in despite the strong objections of their parents. Love works wonders for Hang-ni (Chen Chen). She and Tang enjoy life and he buys her a puppy. Tang however in called home to Hong Kong because he is told his mother is sick. Actually, this was just a trick to separate the two lovers. The separation so upsets Hang-ni that she dies.

Tang is miserable in Hong Kong and finally his mother takes pity on him and gives him a ticket back to Taiwan. When he learns of Hang-ni's death, he is in despair until one day he spots a Siu-mei (Chen Chen), a girl who looks exactly like Hang-ni. Siu-mei is a pop singer starlette and Tang pursues her. They like each other but Siu-mei resents that Tang thinks of her as a replacement for Hang-ni. Eventually, they fall in love.

WARNING CONCLUSION: Tang takes Siu-mei to meet Hang-ni's parents. Hang-ni's mother tells them that the Hang-ni and Siu-mei were twins separated at birth because of family troubles. It seems she had lost her own baby a few days after it was born. The mother of the twins died so their father was talked into giving one of the baby girls away. Tang's parents object to Siu-mei because she is a singer but eventually everything works out for the lovers, Tang and Siu-Mei.
