THE STUDENT PRINCE In 1964, Alan Tang made his first movie called The Student Prince. This black and white movie started his long, successful career as a movie idol. This webpage is called the First Prince of Hong Kong based on this, Tang's first movie. I wish to thank Irene for providing the movie and the story. The movie was in Cantonese with no subtitles. Note: The cast credits below were from Irene, Alan Tang, and the Hong Kong movie data base. The Cast: Alan Tang Kwong Wing Ting Ying Helena Law Lan Yue Ming Leung Siu Kam Mak Gei Li Peng Fei Li Ker Mai Chi The Director Mo Siao Shi (Mok Kang See) Mok Hong Shut Script by Yeung Po Hei Miao Zhuo Han The Story Alan Tang is attending college without letting anyone know that he is really a prince. He meets a girl (Ting Ying) who is an excellent singer and he wants to help her with her singing career. Tang has a rival at the school who is very rich. Ying's parents want her to date the rich guy not Tang. They think Tang is very poor since they saw him waiting on tables in the school canteen. Tang was actually helping out a waiter friend who was sick. Tang sells a ring he owns to raise money to help Ying with her career. The police think he has stolen it and detain him. Eventually, everything gets corrected including the fact that Tang is really a prince. Ying's parents then are happy about their daughter's friendship with Tang. WARNING CONCLUSION: The movie ends with Prince Tang leaving to return to Nanying. He tells Ying that he will return for the 2nd term at college. There are no romantic scenes between Tang and Ying only a hand shake. Note: There are some very funny scenes in this movie and Tang shows early promise as an actor. |
