RETURN ENGAGEMENT Alan Tang starred in and produced Return Engagement in 1990. This gangster action drama starred Andy Lau and Simon Yam as well. Tang and Lau are in the picture above. Yeh (Associate) The Story Alan Tang is a triad-style gangster living in Vancouver, Canada in 1974. His Chinese gang is at war with the Italian Mafia in the area. His wife is unhappy with their lifestyle and wants to leave Tang and return to Hong Kong with their baby daughter. Tang agrees to let her go but keeps the baby. Before she can leave, fighting breaks out and she is killed by the Italians. Tang revenges her death in a dramatic train station fight. He ends up in jail but first sends his baby daughter back to Hong Kong with his brother. The story continues in 1989 when Tang, now much older, is released from jail. While in jail he sent money and letters to his daughter in Hong Kong. For some reason prior to his release, all his communications with her stopped. Tang has a brief meeting with the current Vancouver triads. They welcome him back and he meets Andy Lau who worships him as "Big Brother". Tang and Lau together fight with the Italians and win. Tang then leaves for Hong Kong to find his daughter. Tang connects up with the Hong Kong triads and immediately incurs the jealously of underboss Simon Yam. Tang also seeks help from a beautiful female bar owner who becomes his girlfriend. She connects him up with a orphan teenage girl who was a friend of his daughter. There is some fun "generation gap" interactions between Tang and the teenager over clothes, music and hairstyles. They bond together in the search for his daughter. Tang's troubles with Simon Yam continue, eventually involving both the teenager and Tang's girlfriend. Things escalate to the point where Tang seeks help from Andy Lau and the Vancouver triads. If you like action sequences, the final shootout in this film is not to be missed. RETURN ENGAGEMENT PICTURES Tang as a Vancouver gangster holds his baby daughter as his wife leaves him. Tang on phone in Hong Kong trying to find information about his daughter. Tang seeks the help of this beautiful bar owner to find his daughter and she becomes his girlfriend. Tang protects the teenage orphan friend of his lost daughter after she becomes injured when Yam's men come after both of them. In a light moment, Andy Lau gives "Big Brother" Alan Tang a tube of hair gel so he will look handsome in his confrontations with Simon Yam. Alan Tang and Simon Yam confront each other at the bosses funeral. Alan Tang walks away from Simon Yam. Tang uses machine gun in one of the many action sequences in this film.
