Love by Post Alan Tang and Brigitte Lin are teamed again in the romantic comedy Love by Post. Love by Post is the first movie (I have found to date) where Alan Tang plays a mostly comedic role with little fighting. This is also an interesting movie in that the eight year age difference between Alan Tang and Brigitte Lin is very obvious. Tang looks a bit old for the part but does a good job none the less. The Cast:Alan Tang Kwong Wing Brigitte Lin Ching Hsai Li Do Hung Lui Yau Wai The Director Cheung Mei Kun The Scripwriter Lan Wong Kwun The Producer Lui Wai Man The Story Alan Tang has a good friend who has been penpals with Brigitte Lin's sister for several years. Both the friend and the sister are very shy. Tang comes to Hong Kong from Singapore on business and has been asked by his friend to check out his penpal. Brigitte's sister asks her to meet her penpal at the airport as she doesn't know what to say. Tang and Lin miss each other at the airport because the pictures they have of the penpals don't match. They then meet again when Lin's cab hits Tang's chauffeured limousine. Throughout the course of the movie there are several very funny attempts by the "fake" penpals to meet each other. The penpals of course don't find each other but Tang and Lin keep meeting. They start dating and in the course of this, Brigitte thinks that Tang in his imposter role is her sister's penpal. She quizzes him on why he is so different from his letters and pictures. Tang carries on the deception by being funny. They run on the beach and fall in love. Lin then feels sorry for her sister and offers to give up Tang. Tang still doesn't know that Lin isn't his friend's penpal and worries about what to do when his friend decides to come from Singapore. When Tang and Lin finally discover that neither is whom they were pretending to be both are deliriously happy. The two "real" penpals meet and fall instantly in love. All four are happy. WARNING CONCLUSION:This is where the movie takes another funny turn. Brigitte's mother decides that neither Tang nor his friend are to be trusted with her daughters. With the help of the family maid, she tries to keep the four apart. Tang and his friend do all sorts of funny antics to gain access to their girlfriends, including shooting rockets, climbing walls and swimming in a cold swimming pool. In the end the mother relents and the four are happy together. |
