Gun n' Rose

In 1992 Alan Tang both produced and starred in Gun n' Rose, a Hong Kong triad action movie with a touch of romance. Simon Yam, Andy Lau, Leon Lai, Monica Chan and Carrie Ng provided a super supporting cast. Tang had lots of screen time in this movie and did everything from romantic scenes to wild action sequences.

The Story

Alan Tang plays the adopted son of a powerful Taiwanese triad figure who also has two other sons played by Simon Yam and Bowie Lam. Alan and his father share a deep mutual respect and admiration for each other. This makes Bowie and Simon jealous. Bowie fails to protect his father from being shot by rival triads and incurs Alan's rath. Bowie gets revenge by turning Alan in to the police. The father has his son Bowie killed so that Alan will be released from jail.

Monica is a nurse in the hospital where the father is taken for treatment. Alan meets her there, falls in love, marries her and tries to give up the gangster life. Their happiness is short-lived as Simon tries to have Alan killed and in the process shoots and cripples Monica. Simon also kills his father. Unaware of this Alan and Monica escape to Stanley on Hong Kong Island.

While in Stanley Alan works as a truck driver and meets up with Andy Lau who heads up a local gang. Andy and Alan become involved in preventing drug smuggling. Andy's sister Carrie falls in love with Alan not realizing that he is married. Leon Lai's character, who appears throughout the movie as Simon's talented hitman, finds Alan and Monica. Leon warns Alan to run. Monica commits suicide. Alan Returns to Taipei with Andy Lau.

A great final showdown between Alan and Simon takes place involving both Leon and Andy. This is the best of several spectacular action sequences that occur throughout the movie. The ending you will have to see for yourself. I'll just say that this is fine movie with great actors, a good script and everything from romance to the ultimate in treachery.
